Billy had ruled the Greenwood ever since Mr. Woodward, one day during lessons, had told a story about William the Conqueror, an old Norman king. Mr. Woodward was a spindly old man who on Monday mornings insisted the children sit down in a musty shed behind his house for their education, most of which bored Billy to tears. William the Conqueror, on the other hand, was inspiring.
